Blues
Glossary
Blues is a style of music which developed in the United States after the Civil War and into the early twentieth century, with roots that can be traced back through African-American spirituals and work songs to Africa, and which gradually grew into new styles, including rock and roll, rhythm and blues (R&B) and jazz.
Electric blues brought the blues tradition into the amplified era, and the blue note of the blues scale (a ♭5 degree) turns the pentatonic scale into a melancholy vehicle for improvising, especially in solo or instrumental contexts.
